Free time in Newcastle

DURING YOUR STAY

Day 1 – Before arriving at the hotel, we enjoy free time in the Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate. Home to historic buildings and decorative gardens, it is one of the most elegant destinations in the north of England. We then continue to our hotel in Newcastle.

Day 2 – Today we have arranged a trip over the famous causeway to the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne*.

Lying just off the Northumberland coast, the Holy Island (as seen on Robson Green’s Tales from Northumberland) is a picturesque, unspoilt village cut off twice a day from the rest of the world by the tide. We also visit the nearby Bamburgh Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the country. *The exact order of the day will depend on tidal times.

Day 3 – Enjoy free time in Newcastle. As our hotel is located a short walk from Newcastle Castle, why not explore this imposing Norman fortress which provides beautiful views over the city and reveals the story of how Newcastle began.

Day 4 – We visit Durham, home to one of the most recognisable landmarks in the UK, the majestic Durham Cathedral, and the adjacent Durham Castle. Enjoy free time to explore the city. Later, we travel to the National Trust’s Washington Old Hall, a manor house associated with the family of George Washington, first President of the United States of America.

Day 5 – We travel to York. This beautifully preserved Roman city is a wonderful place to enjoy a couple of hours, with its unique surroundings and a warm ambience. Why not enjoy a cup of tea (or coffee) in one of the cosy cafés around the city before we return home.
