DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – Enjoy a relaxing journey to our hotel in Ilfracombe.
Day 2 – Today we visit Darlington Crystal, the UK’s only remaining glass factory! Here, we have arranged a unique and fascinating experience where you can watch skilled glass makers in action on the factory floor, safely from the viewing areas. This afternoon we take you to Ilfracombe harbour where we board the Ilfracombe Princess for a wonderful wildlife cruise! Quietly sailing through the Marine Conservation Zone, you will see waterfalls, lighthouses, mines, secluded hamlets and picturesque historic villages. And keep your eyes peeled for Seals, Porpoises and Dolphins*.
Day 3 – After breakfast enjoy free time in Ilfracombe home to the award-winning Ilfracombe Aquarium, the unique Tunnel Beaches and the fascinating Ilfracombe Museum.
Day 4 – We spend the morning in the seaside resort of Woolacombe, home to a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying a leisurely stroll along its wide, sandy beach. This afternoon we visit Barnstaple, the largest town in North Devon. This traditional market town features many fine buildings and attractive narrow streets. The oldest surviving part of town is the Norman mound and remnants of the original Norman castle wall can still be seen.
Day 5 – After breakfast we visit Bideford for free time. Set on the west bank of the River Torridge, Bideford is an historic harbour town filled with independent shops, quaint tea rooms and a riverside quay. Later, we travel to Harland Abbey and Gardens. Built in the 12th century, Hartland Abbey survived as a monastery longer than any other in the country. In 1539 Henry VIII gifted the Abbey to the Keeper of his Wine Cellar and today the house remains in the Stucley family. As one of the most historically important ancestral homes in North Devon, it features decoration from the Medieval, Queen Anne, Georgian, Regency and Victorian periods as well as painting, furniture, Chinese artefacts and porcelain collected over many generations.
Day 6 – Enjoy some more free time in Ilfracombe to do as much (or as little) as you like.
Day 7 – This morning we travel to Appledore and the village of Clovelly
Day 8- We make our way back to the East Midlands today
