Day 1

We travel north to the beautiful market town of Richmond, gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with its majestic castle and unique character making it a jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire. We continue to Great Ayton, one of Yorkshires prettiest villages where Capt. Cook spent his early life - visit the Capt. Cook's Schoolroom Museum for an insight into his childhood and how his adventures on the high seas changed the map of the world!

Day 2

Today we will follow in the footsteps of Captain James Cook, Britain's most famous seaman and explorer, as we travel via Guisborough to Whitby, where James lived and worked as an apprentice seaman for a local shipping firm. The house where he lodged with his master is still in Whitby's Grape Lane and is now open to the public as the Captain Cook Memorial Museum. The house retains much of its original internal decoration and has been meticulously restored. The visitor enters from the courtyard overlooking the harbour. Whitby is also famous as inspiration for Bram Stoker's spin-chilling novel Dracula and you might like to climb the 199 steps to the eerie graveyard of St Mary's Church. Later, we enjoy a coastal drive back to our hotel past Staithes, the seaside village in the borough of Scarborough, where a 16-year-old Cook served an apprenticeship as a shopkeeper and haberdasher.

Day 3

Shortly after breakfast we visit Hartlepool Marina and its centrepiece, the award-winning Historic Quay - a faithful reproduction of an 18th century seaport portraying the exciting experience of what life was like at the time of Nelson and Trafalgar. This superb attraction offers the sights, smells and sounds of the naval yesteryear, with the highlight stepping aboard HMS Trincomalee, Britain's oldest warship afloat, dating back to 1817. We head for home mid-afternoon.
