This break is an incredible way to enjoy the famous river valley as we include a journey on the Drachenfelsbahn Rack Railway and the Vulkan Express Train, as well as a relaxing boat cruise to Königswinter and an optional excursion to the dramatic Ahr Valley.

Day 1

We set sail across the Channel and continue to the Hotel Pinger in Remagen, Germany.

Day 2

Today we have arranged a journey on the Drachenfels Railway. This historic rack railway is one of only four still in operation in Germany and runs from Königswinter to the summit of the stunning Drachenfels Mountain. After our incredible train journey, we then enjoy a boat ride on Königswinter to Linz am Rhein. Situated on the banks of the River Rhine, this enchanting medieval destination offers a lively old town with architectural treasures.

Day 3

Spend today in the comfort of the hotel. After breakfast perhaps wander out into the historic streets of Remagen most famous for the bridge across the Rhine that was destroyed in World War II and has never been re?built. Instead, it remains as a memorial towering over the Roman city. Or, why not join us for an optional excursion to the incredible Ahr Valley*? Our full day visit will include a return journey on the Ahr Valley Train, entrance and a tour and tasting at Mayschoss Wine Cellar and a delightful horse drawn carriage ride through the Mönchsberg vineyard.

Day 4

We travel to Brohl, where we have arranged a journey on the Vulkan Express train (Diesel Service) to Engeln. Although named the 'express,' this slow-moving train takes one a half hours to travel 11 miles, giving you plenty of time to relax and take in the acres of beautiful scenery. We then take you to Andernach, where we visit the world's highest cold-water geyser; a spectacular natural phenomenon which erupts every two hours with an impressive water fountain rising to 200ft into the sky! After some free time in Andernach, we return to the hotel.

Day 5

After breakfast we begin our return journey home.
