Day 2
Experience the magnificent 1940's event today. During this weekend, this small picturesque market town is transformed to recapture the war period with hundreds of visitors dressing in vintage clothing and re-enactors engendering a real wartime spirit. As you stroll around the town's cobbled streets, the sights and sounds of the war years are brought to life through re-enactor camps and displays, which include key battles and scenes from a field military hospital featuring the American light infantry, Russian soldiers and a contingent of German troops.
There is plenty for military enthusiasts to enjoy, with the main square and car parks packed full with military and civilian vehicles from the era, including authentic tanks and half-track lorries. Star attractions are always the replica aircraft and a Merlin engine used in a Spitfire plane which later went on to power a Challenger tank.
Adding to the period feel there is plenty of traditional entertainment that's free to enjoy.
