The Judith Mary is a family run 72-foot long canal boat which has been running for 37 years. On this day out youll enjoy 2 hours of peaceful cruising along the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal to New Mills. Soon after leaving Whaley Bridge, we navigate our way through the last section of the Upper Peak Forest Canal built in 1800 which is carved out of the sides of a mountain which overlooks the valley of the River Goyt. Well be travelling in a north westerly direction through outstanding countryside, with magnificent views of the mountains all around. The canal is higher than the railway in the valley, and passes villages and towns like Bridgemont, then onto picturesque Furness Vale Marina to New Mills taking in the impressive Kinder Scout, at 631 metres this is the highest plateau in the UK and here we turn and make our way back to Whaley Bridge.
