DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – We visit Durham for free time. Home to one of the most recognisable landmarks in the UK: Durham Cathedral. After some free time, we enjoy a photo opportunity at the Angel of the North before continuing to our hotel in Gateshead.
Day 2 – Today we enjoy a full day excursion around the Northumbria Coast – via our coach! We drive to Berwick-Upon-Tweed first before enjoying a coffee stop at the Barn at Beal. This converted 19th century barn offers fantastic panorama views overlooking the Holy Island. Afterwards we drive to Bamburgh for free time. Here, we have included admission into Bamburgh Castle. Royal seat of the Kings of Northumberland, Bamburgh Castle thrills, enthrals and captivates with its incredible history, dramatic views and treasure-trove collection of unique pieces which tell the story of Bamburgh’s many reincarnations over the centuries.
Day 3 – After a relaxing morning in the comfort of the hotel, this afternoon we visit Alnwick. Prepare to be spellbound by Alnwick Castle, one of the UK’s most iconic with a rich history brimming with intrigue and starring roles – featuring as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films! Enjoy a stroll around Alnwick Gardens, landscape hedges and flowerbeds around a water cascade.
Day 4 – After breakfast we visit Seahouses for free time. Known to many as ‘The Gateway to the Farne Islands’ this pretty holiday town and fishing port did not exist until 1889, when the harbour was built to improve the local fishing industry. While you’re here perhaps enjoy some fish and chips, apparently, they’re the best in the country! This afternoon, we enjoy a cruise around the Farne Islands. Scattered a couple of miles off the coast, our tour includes 1 hour on Inner Farne, the largest of the Farne Islands and in the summer months it becomes home to nestling seabirds, including Puffins, Shags, Razorbills and Sandwich Terns.
Day 5 – Before returning home, we visit The Roman Vindolanda. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is home to Britain’s Top Treasure – the Vindolanda Writing Tablets – and is one of Europe’s most important Roman archaeological sites. Explore the onsite museum which provides a breath-taking insight into the Trust’s ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life.
