GENERAL MANAGER - SILVERDALE

Head Office on Site, Little Tennis Street, Nottingham

The General Manager plans, coordinates and manages the transport division of Silverdale Tours and is involved in the finances and budget including marketing, PR, strategic development, planning and people management to ensure that a consistent, quality service is provided.

 He/she will attain a National and International CPC (passenger transport), PCV driver’s license and CPC. He / she will also acquire an in depth knowledge and understanding and keep fully abreast of the statutory and legal regulations, and potential changes of same, affecting the PCV industry. 

Specific tasks vary at any given time from customer contact and routine staff supervisions to more strategic planning and project management work.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the transport operation meets its commercial, performance and safety targets, monitoring it and reporting to the Board, particularly in respect of the National Express contract.
  • Oversee activities related to organising, dispatching, routing, and tracking vehicles and coordinate through subordinates the activities of the operations department in order to obtain optimal profit from use of equipment, facilities, and human resources across a number of depots.
  • Ensure that all operations are carried out in accordance with UK and EU laws and regulations, particularly relating to health and safety.
  • Manage and supervise staff, organize work shift rotas, coordinate staff training, plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Assess (and upgrade/recruit where appropriate) lead, motivate and develop the Silverdale team
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Write clear reports and present options and recommendations to clients and senior management.
  • Implement schedule and policy changes and collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Set operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures for the handling of dangerous goods.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, employment contracts, and government regulations.
  • Supervise employee training on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, quality improvement and computer use.
  • Participate in Drivers’ Committee negotiations and settlements of grievances.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets and analyse expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Minimize disruption and resolve any unscheduled delays, make considered decisions in difficult situations.
  • Direct activities of staff responsible for performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Meet passengers and customers to deal with areas of concern; direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints.
  • Analyze results of surveys on passenger/customer satisfaction and start new projects to improve performance.
  • Liaise with passenger watchdogs and other trade & professional bodies, conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures.
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance to those receiving transportation-related grants
  • Use IT systems for tasks such as timetabling, efficient managing of usage, telematics, tracking, materials and staff resources.
  • Advise on policy and strategic developments and examine business decisions (pricing policy, level of service provision, timetable changes) to assess their impact on passengers.
  • Recommend capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property in order to increase efficiency and services of operations department. Direct procurement processes, including equipment research and testing, vendor contracts, and requisitions approval. Negotiate and authorize contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contract fulfilment.

About the Role
Responsibility of The Role focuses on the coordination and management of Service Delivery within the Skills Group primarily around key accounts / contracts encompassing the financials and budget to including marketing, PR, and people management thus ensuring consistent quality and service is provided.

DUTY PLANNER / SCHEDULER

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced duty planner / scheduler to join our operations planning team. Working directly for the head of operations planning, the successful candidate will be commercially minded, with an excellent geographical knowledge and a keen eye for detail. The environment is extremely pressurised as the target is always moving, to be successful you must be able to keep focused and solve the varied and multiple problems of a live operations environment.

 The primary responsibilities are:

  • Scheduling driver’s daily work duties across the complete range of services we offer (National Express, Holidays, Day Trips, School Contracts and Private Hires) whilst limiting dead miles between journeys.
  • Scheduling the appropriate vehicles to the associated service based on the customer requirements
  • Maximisation of both drivers and vehicle utilisation to ensure the most cost-effective operations
  • Able to professionally communicate with all members of the operations team including Driver Support Officers, Drivers and Engineers

 

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Scheduling experience is a must
  • Solid knowledge of EU driving hours regulations
  • Excellent geographical knowledge
  • Flexibility in working days and times

 

Desirable

  • Experience using distinctive microsystems (coach manager, VMS)

  • Routine servicing and maintenance repairs being able to diagnose and resolve an issue
  • Fault finding and defect clearing using the latest diagnostics equipment
  • Completion of all required paperwork to a high standard

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Good housekeeping routines to meet health and safety standards
  • Recognised qualifications (City and Guilds NVQ or equivalent) if not proven Industry experience
  • Team player but able to work on own initiative with experience of working on a wide variety of makes of coaches
  • A full driving licences

 

Desirable

  • A PCV License

About the Role

We are looking for a full time Body Shop Technician with main duties of:

  • Carrying out timely repair of accident damage to a high standard
  • Routine fleet maintenance functions
  • Completion of all required paperwork to a high standard

  • Experience in Coach repairs preferable.
  • Good housekeeping routines to meet health and safety standards
